Lifelong Learning

Teslin Tlingit Council (TTC) encourages and supports Citizens to identify and reach their career ambitions. Courses are offered for TTC Citizens and employees to help expand the skills required in their current job or develop skills for new job opportunities.

Training Programs

Department staff work closely with the Yukon Mine Training Association (YMTA) and Yukon Government to coordinate training programs. With YMTA, TTC co-sponsors Citizens in Heavy Equipment Operations and welding training. The Department also works closely with the Yukon College’s Presidents Advisory Committee on First Nations Initiatives (PACFNI), and an increasing number of distance programs are being offered. These include, First Nation Governance and Public Administration, Heritage and Culture, and the Northern Institute of Social Justice programs.

For information about current training opportunities, visit Staff Training. For information on Post-Secondary training and funding opportunities, please see Post-Secondary Education.

Job-Readiness Skills

Training is offered through the Assets Agreement through Human Resources Services Canada (AAHRSC). Each year this includes First Aid, Road Flagging and Resume Writing courses, based on budget availability.

Career Assessment and Placement

The HR and Staff Development Officer and Community Skills Development Officer provide career assessment services to all TTC Citizens. In addition, all Workforce Development staff have been trained in career counseling. Staff can help Citizens identify occupations that best suit their skills, aptitude and personality. Citizens can take career placement tests at the Workforce Development Department and attain guidance in choosing a career path. Citizens will be assisted in developing work plans and in choosing the required courses for a position.

For more information, or to set up a career planning appointment, contact the Community Skills Development Officer at 390-2532, ext. 318, visit our Career Planning page, or simply stop by the Workforce Development Department.
