The Health and Social Development Department has a professional and well-trained team, offering comprehensive and collaborative wellness support services in line with Haa Ḵusteeyí (‘Our Way’). Support services are based on a case management system that integrates, complements and enhances our culture, our governance protocols, procedures and Haa Ḵusteeyí.
The case management is a collaborative, client-driven process for the provision of quality health and support services through the effective and efficient use of resources. The case management supports the clients’ achievement of safe, realistic, and reasonable goals within a complex health, social, and fiscal environment.
The caseworker coordinates assistance for clients to help them become self-reliant and live a healthy lifestyle. Everyone is treated respectfully and is encouraged in their efforts in becoming self-reliant. Client’s information is confidential.
Confidential and professional counselling services are available for TTC Citizens, staff and their families.
Counsellors have extensive experience in a variety of areas including relationships, workplace communication, anxiety, depression, addictions, grief, loss, and play-based therapy for children. Specialized counselling sessions in other areas or psychological assessments can be arranged as requested.
The Health and Social Development Department provides home-based support services in Teslin for Elders and others in need. The program assists individuals to live comfortably in their homes, and provides relief to family members.
We visit Elders’ homes regularly to help with basic housekeeping, cleaning, retrieving mail, banking and shopping. Maintenance work is also available through the Elders Program.
We also provide transportation to appointments in Whitehorse and may also provide escorts for medical travel outside of the territory (restrictions may apply).
